In collaboration with blended agency iO, Amnesty International is drawing attention to the human rights violations resulting from the expansion of copper and cobalt mines in Kolwezi, located in the southern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Residents of the DRC are paying a high price for the global demand for copper and cobalt: they are forced to leave their homes, their properties are illegally destroyed, and they fall victim to physical violence. Every day, there are casualties in the mining of these minerals in a country plagued by armed conflicts and still suffering the effects of colonial atrocities.

To reinforce this protest, iO developed a powerful advertising campaign and accompanying social media strategy. The title, ' A fierce battle rages behind the scenes ,' leaves nothing to the imagination.

Amnesty International calls on the DRC government to immediately end the forced evictions in Kolwezi , to stop the human rights violations, and to prioritize people over profit.
