How does a leader in furniture hardware ensure GDPR compliance and cost efficiency for all their banners?
A CMP (Consent Management Platform) is a must these days, for every (European) company with a website must have implemented a working cookie banner/wall. This case shows how we helped one of our clients to accurately set up a CMP for their domains, that follow the law and offer the user a safe environment for their privacy and data.
GDPR-compliant banners for user trust
Creating cost-efficient, centralized banners
Managing 24 domains under one account
Ensuring user data privacy and safety
Van Hoecke
Van Hoecke offers white label platforms, which they refer to as “multi personalities”. Via these B2B platforms Van Hoecke supports its direct customers in offering configurators and ORGALUX products to their customers. All platforms are working with a login system. However, by having a login, but also an ecommerce environment on the website, there are bound to be cookies on the website that tracks the visitors movement. The big challenge was here to make the sites compliant with the GDPR-law, while still being easy to access, having the same styling and to centralise it so the banners were cost-efficient and easy to adapt if needed.
Create different, compliant cookie banners that block all cookies on many different websites.
Implement an all-in-one CMP that covers all the needs of our client.
About Van Hoecke
As a distributor of functional furniture fittings, Van Hoecke is a household name, both in its home base of Sint-Niklaas and far beyond. Van Hoecke has a distinct B2B approach and mainly supplies kitchen manufacturers – resulting in 16,000 unique products every week, 9000 active clients per year and an annual turnover of 112 million euros.

Multiple sites, one account
So, to appeal to the challenge of our client, we had to make sure we could build all these banners in one platform, preferably under one account. Our immediate thought was to implement trustworthy CMP CookieHub, which was a perfect solution to the problem at hand. CookieHub made it possible to build the banner easily and quickly, in one account under one billing address. The blocking of the cookies on the website we planned to do through Google Tag Manager, since most of the cookies on the website were set through this service, unless there were hardcoded scripts on the website that would place cookies as well. In this case, we would have a solution to that as well.
The result of this was a sleek, clear overview of banners/domains within the CMP CookieHub. In total, 24 domains were added under one account, with each its own set of cookies, styling and way of working, while still having their own feel and touch to it. The banners all follow the GDPR-legislation and don’t let any cookie in without the consent of the user, so the data they use on the site is safe and private. With this, the client is safe from any future checks of the European government and more importantly, their users get a sense of trust and privacy when entering the site.
Creating secure customer experiences with Van Hoecke’s white label ecosystem
We’ve been working with Van Hoecke for multiple other projects, like website setups, social media marketing and marketing automation. One such project was the creation of the white label ecosystem. These B2B platforms offer clients of VH customers the option to configure and order pre-assembled drawers and ORGALUX products. All platforms are hidden behind a login, only given to these clients and because of this, cookies are created to keep the login data used on the website. To handle any possible privacy problems, Van Hoecke had to set up a working cookie banner that could help users in shielding their information from being tracked by Google Analytics if they so desire.
And so, they came to us with the question to make sure their digital platforms were GDPR-compliant. The first variables we need to know to make a decision are the amount of subdomains, the amount of monthly visitors on these subdomains and whether or not the website held any specific functionalities that could have an impact on the cookie banner (e.g.: different languages, the banner getting in front of the footer being crucial to the function of the website, etc…). After examining these variables and making our determinations, we could give them a clear and concise briefing and cost estimate of our future efforts.
The art of balancing compliance and costs: insights from our use of CookieHub
A CMP we often use in these cases came to mind immediately: CookieHub. This is a platform where many different domains or subdomains could be added, where they each also could have their own pricing, should a website go over a certain threshold of visitors in a month. Since the pricing of this platform is session-based, and the domains were each under their own little environment within CookieHub (BUT under the same account), we could keep the costs low by implementing the free version of the banners. Furthermore, this platform allowed us to easily copy and paste the styling of the banners, while still being able to make little tweaks to conform to the branding of the different projects, making both the setup time for us and the setup costs for the client low.
In the end, we made sure that every banner blocked the correct cookies and were in and of itself a part of the website, which caused the site users no annoyance because of bad UI/UX. The websites now still run with these banners in place, while we keep a close eye on the decisions of GDPR, so that we can make timely adjustments to the banners if and when needed.

Everything you need to know about Consent Management Platforms (CMP)
Organisations often store user data on their websites and apps, usually in the form of cookies. But every organisation has to be transparent about how they handle this data, and let users know if their data is shared with external parties. A Consent Management Platform (CMP) can help with this. We'll tell you all about it in this blog.
